There have been some recent works in Herbert Park which have caused substantial access problems. A temporary barrier has been put up beside the playground, apparantly to keep customers away from the vehicle access gate. However, this barrier means that the route beside the playground now runs over very rough ground, and is quite narrow.

You can see pictures of this route at http://serialcomplainer.com/wordpress/images/2009/06/12052009001.jpg and http://serialcomplainer.com/wordpress/images/2009/06/12052009.jpgThis route would be very difficult for a wheelchair user or a parent with a buggy to navigate. Please advise when this will be rectified.

Parks have responded saying that there were some loose stones on this route which have now been removed. They plan to tarmac this route within the next few months , and erect a permanent railing where the temporary fence is . Wheelchairs and buggies have another optional route if this one is too narrow .

So they were planning to tarmac the area in 'the next few months', but nothing has happened 3 months later. I'm not sure that tarmacing this route is a great idea - has anyone checked the width of the remaining route to see if it is sufficient for wheelchair users?

Hi
Parks have been waiting on a requisition to install permanent railing fixtures in Herbert Park, which it is anticipated they will receive an answer on this week.
Once they have been given the go ahead, works on the railings and the new surface will take apporx 1 month. We have asked Parks to to keep us posted on any confirmation they receive, which we will post details of here!
