What is Fairtrade?

Fairtrade is a commercial organisation that aims to return profits to disadvantaged producers in the developing world.

Globalisation and free trade have made it difficult for small-scale producers to compete with large companies. Fairtrade guarantees a minimum price for goods to cover the cost of sustainable production, regardless of market conditions and subsequently invests the profits back into community development. The products are produced with the highest ethical and social standards and which respect the environment.

How do I know if a product is Fairtrade?

The Fairtrade Mark (below) appears on products that meet the Fairtrade standard.
