Housing Aid for Older People Grant Scheme

If you are an older person we can give you a grant to improve poor housing conditions and make essential repairs. This grant covers re-wiring, roofing, replacement of a central heating boiler that is broken beyond repair and putting in central heating where none is fitted.

Apply for Housing Aid

To apply for a grant, follow these steps:

Step 1: Check that you qualify for this scheme

You qualify for this scheme if you live in any of the following:

  • A home that you own.
  • A house that you are buying from Dublin City Council under the tenant purchase scheme.

Step 2: Complete the application form

Step 3: Return the application form to us

Return the completed form to us at the address below.

Make sure to enclose the following documents:

  • A completed tax form (HGD3).
  • Evidence of your household's income from all sources, including your spouse/partner:
    • If you are a PAYE worker: P60 or a Balancing Statement for the previous tax year.
    • If you are a self-employed person or a farmer: An Income Tax Assessment form and a copy of accounts for the previous tax year.
    • If you are a social welfare recipient: A statement from Social Welfare of your weekly/annual payments.
    • If you are a state pensioner: A copy of your current pension book.

If applying to re-wire your home

If you wish to rewire your home you must enclose a written report on the condition of the existing wiring from a qualified electrician.

If applying to re-roof your home

If you wish to re-roof your home you must enclose written confirmation from your insurance company that these repairs are not covered by an existing policy.

How Much You Will Get

The amount of your grant is calculated on the basis on your gross household income. This includes both you and your spouse/partner (if applicable).

Get a Bigger Grant

When doing the calculations we may apply the following deductions to your income, i.e. your income may appear as less than it really is. This means you could qualify for a bigger grant:

  • Less €5,000 for each child 18 years or younger.
  • Less €5,000 for each child aged between 18 to 23 in full time education or on a FAS apprenticeship.
  • Less €5,000 if you are cared for by a relative on a full-time basis.
  • Less any income you receive from Child Benefit.
  • Less any income you receive from Early Childcare Supplement.
  • Less any income you receive from Family Income Supplement.
  • Less any income you receive from Domiciliary Care Allowance.
  • Less any income you receive from Respite Care Grant.
  • Less any income you receive from Carer's Benefit / Allowance (where the payment is made in respect of the persons for whom the application for grant aid is sought).

Appeal a Grant Decision

If you are dissatisfied with the grant you receive, you can appeal to us.

Submit an Appeal

Write us a letter that explains why you are dissatisfied.

Send the letter to us at the address below within 3 weeks of the date of our original decision.

Your appeal will be reviewed within 4 weeks of the receipt of your letter.

You will be told the result of your appeal 2 weeks later.
