Reopening of Coolock Recycle Centre; A newly refurbished Bring Centre at Oscar Traynor Road, Coolock will be officially reopened, at 10 a.m. today, by Lord Mayor of Dublin, Cllr Paddy Bourke.
This facility has served the local community for many years and is one of Dublin City Council’s busiest centres for recycling. It has been totally refurbished, with a much-improved design and layout to make it safer, faster and easier for householders to use.
“The investment of €0.5 million in Coolock Recycle Centre, is a vote of confidence by the City Council in recycle and providing these services within the community” said Lord Mayor Paddy Bourke, “Bring Centres and Bottle Banks are at the hub of Dublin City Councils drive to facilitate communities to recycle and thereby reduce the environmental impact of daily life “.
A Brown Bin Collection Service has been introduced on a pilot basis in the city and is proving very successful. By using a brown bin, households can reduce the amount of material sent to landfill by one third and ensure savings for themselves, as the charge for this bin is significantly lower than the grey bin. These bins take household organic /kitchen waste which goes to a composting facility in the true spirit of recycling.
So far 5,000 tonnes of biodegradable material has been diverted from landfill and this figure is set to significantly increase this year as the service will roll-out across the City over the coming months – with a final completion date in early 2009.
Green Waste Recycle; Dublin City Council are further enhancing it’s recycling initiatives by collecting green waste (garden waste) at four of its recycling centres.
- Windmill Road Crumlin Dublin 12
- Collins Avenue opposite DCU entrance Dublin 9
- Gullistan Terrace, Rathmines, Dublin 6
- Unit 7B Newtown Park, Malahide Road Industrial Estate, Dublin 5
This material is diverted from landfill, and used with a combination of biodegradable material including food and garden waste from Dublin City Council's Brown Bin Collection to make compost. Dublin City Council, will, for a limited period be giving out free 35L bags of this compost at the above locations.
