Tá sé mar aidhm ag an seimineár chomh maith aitheantas a thabhairt don sárobair atá déanta ag Comhairle Cathrach Bhaile Átha Cliath tar-éis dóibh céim a haon den obair chaomhantais ar Uimhir 3 agus Uimhir 14 Sráid Henrietta a chur i gcrích le déanaí.
The Lord Mayor commented “I am delighted to launch this seminar on the subject of conservation of eighteenth century buildings with a focus on Henrietta Street in particular. Dublin has many examples of these fine buildings and it is vitally important that their future is safeguarded for generations to come. I commend Dublin City Council for their ongoing conservation work particularly in conserving the eighteenth century streetscape of Henrietta Street.”

Notes to the Editor
The necessity to undertake these works emerged from a monitoring regime put in place following the launch of the Henrietta Street Conservation Plan by the Dublin City Heritage Officer in January 2007.
The successfully completed conservation engineering works forms part of the implementation of the conservation plan, which has also involved a design competition for the infill of No. 16 Henrietta Street; the replacement of the existing bollards; an investigation of Henrietta Lane and its positive future potential; a façade renewal strategy which aims to allow for the upgrading of facades without loosing the aged patina which makes Henrietta Street such an evocative place to visit.
The focus will be on Henrietta Street and particularly on numbers 3 and 14 where City Council has completed the first phase of a major conservation programme.
In the morning we will talk of broad conservation principles before concentrating on the architectural, engineering and craft technicalities of fabric repair.
The afternoon will open with a discussion of the role of conservation plans and a presentation – based on the experience of the Irish Landmark Trust – on problems of use, and accommodation for reuse, of older buildings such as numbers 3 and 14.
An open forum will follow, presided over by people who, in various ways, have displayed a commitment to the grandest Georgian street in Ireland. A fitting end to a day where we all hope ‘to learn from Henrietta’.
