The following proposal will be discussed at the meeting of the City Councillors on Monday 2nd Nov ’09:
- On Street Car Parking Charges to be suspended, in a designated City Centre area (click here to see map) involving approximately 1380 spaces, to be suspended on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings after 2pm from the 18th November 2009 to 27th December 2009 as a special incentive for Christmas. A number of events will occur during this period – Operation Free Flow will be implemented from 29th November and the Macken Street Bridge will open on the 10th December 2009.
- Marketing/Events Campaign to be implemented
- Evening Bus Priority to be lifted from the 18th November 2009 to 15th January 2010. This covers the peak shopping period over Christmas and the New Year.
- After the evening Bus Priority is reinstated in mid January the planned review to be deferred until May 2010 and a report will be brought to the Transportation SPC initially and then to the June City Council Meeting. This will enable a more appropriate period for consideration of impacts of such as the opening of the Macken Street Bridge.
No further comment will be made until the matter has been debated at the City Council Meeting.
