Photo Opportunity: The Lord Mayor will welcome UEFA’s General Secretary, David Taylor and Assistant Republic of Ireland Team Manager, Marco Tardelli, at a viewing of a model of the new Aviva Stadium where the 2011 UEFA Cup Final will take place.
This selection by UEFA of Dublin City and the new Aviva Stadium was made possible because of a Joint bid to host this prestigious final by the Football Association of Ireland and Dublin City Council.
Welcoming the successful bid Dublin’s Lord Mayor Eibhlin Byrne said: “I am delighted to welcome our colleagues from UEFA and the Football Association of Ireland to formally begin the preparations for what promises to be a hugely exciting global event for Dublin City. This is the first step on the road to the Final which will be an unrivalled opportunity to showcase Dublin to the sporting world. I know that everybody in Dublin looks forward to and will be a part of the carnival which will be the Europa League 2011”.
