Dublin’s Lord Mayor visits Belvedere Students on their Annual ‘Sleep-Out’

Dublin’s Lord Mayor, Cllr Emer Costello will visit the fifth and sixth year students of Belvedere College at their annual ‘Sleep-Out’ on O’Connell Street at 3.00pm today.

According to the Lord Mayor,

“Christmas is one of the most difficult times of the year for the homeless and particularly so this year, with freezing temperatures compounding their feelings of loneliness and isolation. I heartily commend the boys of Belvedere College for their annual fundraising effort, which optimises the true meaning of Christmas. It is worth reflecting when we are enjoying ourselves with family, relatives and friends this Christmas, that homelessness is a very real issue, with many people not being able to enjoy the fundamental comforts of opening their own door, or sleeping in their own beds.

“Not only do the homeless face days of being literally out in the cold, but the ongoing problems presented by the elements seem even crueller to them when on the faces of passers-by they see expressions of joy, hope, love and warmth. This vigil by the students shows a wonderful solidarity and empathy with the homeless and I wish them every success in their fundraising efforts”
the Lord Mayor continued.

End.
