The residents and their families and friends in Mountjoy Street West, Palmerston Place and Middle Mountjoy (MPM Dublin 7) are delighted and honoured that the newly-elected Lord Mayor of Dublin, local Councillor Emer Costello, will be in attendance at their annual mid-summer street party on Saturday 20 June in Palmerston Place. As a Councillor Lord Mayor Costello has been active in assisting residents in their campaigns to maintain and develop a culturally vibrant, family-friendly, and diverse inner-city community. The street party is the longest-running in Dublin, first staged in 1999. As well as being good fun, it has played a vital role in regenerating the neighbourhood. It starts at 6pm with juggling, face-painting and a barbeque. There’s live music at 8pm from local alternative country band, ‘I Draw Slow’, followed by an unplugged traditional music session.
In supporting the residents Lord Mayor Emer Costello said “I would like to congratulate MPM on the continuing and growing success of their Annual Street Party. I have long been impressed by the strong sense of community in this area of Dublin’s North Inner City. I look forward to working with and supporting MPM Residents’ Association in their efforts towards developing an even stronger sense of identity and pride of place”.
