Dublin’s newly elected Lord Mayor, Councillor Emer Costello, will crown the 2009 AIB Street Performance World Champion, on Sunday 21st June, at 8.15 p.m. in Merrion Square at the end of a four-day Festival.
The Street Performance World Championship runs from Thursday 18th June to Sunday 21st June from 12 noon to 8 p.m. in Merrion Square. For the fourth year running the world’s best contortionists, piano jugglers, magicians, break dancers and professional jesters will gather in Merrion Square to do battle for this most coveted title in street performance.
“I am delighted to be here this evening to support the 4th Annual Street Performance World Championship in this beautiful setting of Merrion Square Park. It is wonderful to see so many colourful characters all gathered in one public space providing such diverse entertainment. I hope everyone who attended the performances over the last few days enjoyed themselves and perhaps they will be inspired to take up a new pastime” said the Lord Mayor.

- The Centre of Deaf Studies will have sign interpreters in Merrion Square on Saturday and Sunday interpreting the shows on both days
- For more hands-on entertainment there will be activities including free clay modelling workshops, face painting, balloon modelling, juggling workshops and a show that takes place in the belly of a 30 foot long sleeping sow. A great day out with entertainment for all the family is guaranteed!
