6,000 join dublinbikes in first week

Subscriptions to the new dublinbikes scheme have surpassed all expectations. dublinbikes was launched on Sunday 13th September and since then there have been approximately 6,000 subscribers to the scheme.

Over 5,000 of these have been for Long Term Hire Cards and almost 1,000 for 72-hour Short Term subscriptions. Long Term members join on www.dublinbikes.ie and short term subscriptions are available from 14 of the dublinbikes network’s 40 bike station terminals.

Cllr Andrew Montague, who launched the scheme on behalf of Lord Mayor Cllr Emer Costello, is delighted at the scheme’s initial success. He says

“now that dublinbikes is here people can see what a great asset it is to the city. The system is easy to use and it’s a pleasant and enjoyable way to get around. We’re delighted with the numbers of people joining and anyone in the city this week can see that it’s something people in the city are really enthusiastic about and have reacted very favourably to.”
