As Lord Mayor, I visited the scene of the collision between the bus and Luas tram on O’Connell St. this afternoon. My thoughts are with all of those injured or affected by this accident and their families. 21 people in total were injured and I am informed that three people are seriously injured. It is hoped that the other injuries are not as serious. Fortunately, it does not appear that the accident will result in any fatalities. I sincerely hope that those injured will make a full recovery.
Those injured are being treated at the Mater, St. James’s and Beaumont Hospitals. Two Fire Appliances, an Emergency Tender and four ambulances from Dublin Fire Brigade attended the scene. Ambulances from the HSE also attended as did units of the Gardai and I would like to thank all the emergency services for their dedication and professionalism at the accident scene.
Dublin City Council also provided assistance to the Gardai, Dublin Bus and AA Road Watch to facilitate traffic management and operated traffic restrictions in the following the accident.
