The 90th annual Dublin Liffey Swim sponsored by Dublin City Council took place today, Saturday 12th September 2009. The swim, a 2.2kilometre race, started at Rory O'More Bridge, Watling Street and finished at the Customs House. The swimmers were each assigned a time handicap depending on their level of proficiency.
The men's event 16.20hrs Start
- Winner - Pat O'Driscoll, Templeogue Club in a time of 29 minutes and 7seconds (Handicap 2 mins, 30 secs)
- Second place - Gerard Carty, Aquatec Club in a time of 30 minutes and 6 seconds (Handicap 5 mins, 40 secs)
- Third place - Sean Kenna, St. Vincent's Club in a time of 30 minutes and 7 seconds (Handicap 5 mins, 20 secs)
The women's event 17.20hrs Start
- Winner - Sorcha Barry, Glenalbyn Masters in a time of 32 minutes and 14 seconds (Handicap 6 mins, 20 secs)
- Second place - Bernie O'Brien, Aer Lingus in a time of 32 minutes and 25 seconds (Handicap 2 mins, 30 secs)
- Third place - Linda Clarke, Glenalbyn Masters in a time of 32 minutes and 30 seconds (Handicap 6 mins, 20 secs)
