Lord Mayor of Dublin, Councillor Emer Costello, will launch a new historical “Walk and Talk” tour as part of Dublin’s Culture Night, on Friday 25th September 2009 at 5pm at Barnardo Square beside City Hall, Dame Street, Dublin 2, entitled “Irish Revolution and the French Connection”. The tour will finish at the Civic Offices, Wood Quay in time for “Mise-en-Scene”, a soiree of dance, music and drama which will celebrate French Culture.
“I am delighted to be here today to launch a new and exciting “Walk and Talk” tour which I know will provide everyone with an informative, interesting and fun evening of French culture and history. I hope everyone has a great evening”
said the Lord Mayor.
The tour is part of Dublin City Council’s “New Shores, Ancient Footprints” initiative which was launched in August and focussed on the diverse communities and cultures that reside in Dublin, such as “Jewish Dublin” and “Italian Dublin”, both of which were hugely successful. The new “Walk and Talk” tours will study the connections between France and Dublin down through the centuries and in particular will examine how Irish Revolutions were inspired and influenced by French history.
A second “Walk and Talk” will be held on Sunday 27th September 2009 at 3pm entitled “French Connections with Dublin and Dubliners” and will commence at the statue of Wolfe Tone, St. Stephen’s Green, Dublin 2 (opposite the Shelbourne Hotel).
