Lord Mayor, Councillor Emer Costello expresses her sympathy to those affected by last night’s flooding and commends the work of the Emergency Services and Dublin City Response Crews
“As Dublin’s Lord Mayor, I wish to express my sincere sympathy to all those that had their properties and personal belongings damaged in last night’s flooding, especially those that have been unfortunate enough to have experienced this type of flood damage twice within 12 months.”
“I would like to highly commend the response efforts in Dublin of the Emergency Services (Dublin Fire Brigade & the Gárdai), the Civil Defence, Water, Drainage and Road Maintenance Crews and their Management, who worked tirelessly through the early hours this morning to deal with the flooding. As always they reacted promptly to rescue and evacuate those affected, as well as endeavouring to alleviate the severity of the flooding”
“This is the second time within the space of 12 months that Dublin experienced this type of flooding and it is clear that this is as a direct consequence of Climate Change. Therefore, I believe that radical measures now need to be taken at Central Government level to make more funding available to the relevant authorities to plan and mitigate for future occurrences of this type of weather event.”
