After the official opening, the new recruits will receive their graduation scrolls from the Lord Mayor in the Auditorium.
Lord Mayor Costello says
“I would like to congratulate these newest members of Dublin Fire Brigade after an arduous selection and training programme and it is a very proud day for them, their families and friends. In Dublin we are very fortunate to have an exceptional fire service staffed by dedicated people that provide a valuable and often selfless service to the community and I wish the recruits every success in this new and demanding career for them.
“ The O’Brien Institute has been magnificently restored and will be a valuable asset to Dublin Fire Brigade, other fire and emergency services, the fire Service Council and the new National Directorate”, the Lord Mayor added.
The recruits have undergone a rigorous fifteen week training programme, graduating with knowledge and practical skills which equip them to work alongside their experienced fire fighter colleagues in Dublin Fire Brigade. They will showcase this expert training following the parade as they partake in simulated Road Traffic Accident rescues and Fire Fighting drills in the Courtyard of the Institute.

Notes to editor:
Francis Haughty Construction carried out the magnificent restoration work under the direction of Kevin Blackwood Associates Architects, along with their respective teams of sub-contractors and design professionals. Professional advice and project management services were also received from a number of Dublin City Council Departments.
The planning process for this project commenced in 2005. It is part of a larger framework development plan to enhance the Fire Service training facilities at the O’Brien Institute. The completion of the Chapel Auditorium is an important and significant achievement in this overall plan.
In addition to their basic training, the recruits received specialist instruction in:
- Compartment Fire fighting Training (dealing with backdraughts and flashovers)
- Swift Water First Responder
- Road traffic accident procedures
- Dealing with hazardous substances
- Pump Operation
- Community Fire Safety
- Fire Prevention
