1,380 FREE on-street parking spaces in designated retail core area of Dublin Free on-street parking available after 2pm from Thursday to Sunday

Dublin City Council has reminded motorists that the Dublin City Free On-Street Christmas Parking Scheme comes into operation on Thursday 19th November.

Under this scheme, from Thursday November 19th to Sunday December 27th, 1,380 on-street parking spaces within a designated retail core area of Dublin City will be free from parking charges from 2pm every Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. All of the free parking spaces are located within the core retail area of Dublin City.

A full map of the core retail area showing the area within which all of the 1,380 parking spaces are located can be viewed at http://transportfordublin.ie/documents/freeparkingzone.pdf

From Thursday November 19th to Sunday December 27th, visitors to Dublin City will be able to park free of charge at any of the 1,380 on-street parking spaces that form part of this new parking scheme. The scheme will operate from 2pm every Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Parking in areas outside the core retail area of Dublin City will attract parking charges as normal.

Information concerning eligible streets for free parking will be provided on street signage and on parking meters, and motorists are advised to check the parking meters before leaving their car.

Commenting on the new initiative, Sean Smith, Communications Manager, Transport 21 Project Office said:

“Dublin City is well worth a visit and Dublin City Council wants to make it as easy as possible for people to spend some time in Dublin this November and December. That’s why we are introducing the Dublin City Free Christmas Parking Scheme. We want to encourage people to come into the city and to see for themselves what Dublin has to offer, and that is why we are making 1,380 parking spaces available free of charge right at the heart of Dublin City.

“Dublin has never been more accessible. The new Beckett Bridge and the Luas Red Line extension will open soon and the City Centre Fare being offered by Dublin Bus is making it easier and cheaper to move around the city centre. The Dublin City Free Christmas Parking Scheme is another good reason to come into Dublin before Christmas and explore the city.”
