Red flood lighting at City Hall to mark World AIDS Day 2009

Dublin’s City Hall on Dame Street will be floodlit in red  between 16.30hrs and 23.30hrs to mark World AIDS Day on Tuesday 1st December.

Lord Mayor Cllr Emer Costello will perform a ceremony just before the lights are turned on at 16.30hrs. Rebecca Feery of Dublin AIDS Alliance will also attend.

According to Lord Mayor Costello,

“People all over the world wear red ribbons on 1st December to commemorate World AIDS Day. The ribbon is a simple and powerful way to show support and solidarity with those suffering from HIV and AIDS. It also challenges the stigma surrounding HIV and AIDS and by flood lighting City Hall in red we are showing our solidarity with those who suffer from HIV and AIDS throughout the world and especially here in Dublin.”

All individuals and organisations that work to combat AIDS or that raise awareness of AIDS are very welcome to attend to help highlight World AIDS Day.
