‘The LAB Gallery40 Exhibitions 06-08’ launch

The Lord Mayor, Eibhlin Byrne helps celebrate three years of the LAB by launching the new publication, The LAB Gallery 40 Exhibitions 06-08 on Wednesday 26th November at 11a.m. at The LAB on Foley Street, Dublin 1.

Dublin City Council opened its new municipal arts facility at the LAB on Foley Street in late 2005.  The LAB houses the Council Arts Office, theatre rehearsal and workshop spaces and two floors of gallery space.  Since 2005 the venue has hosted over forty exhibitions with ancillary talks, performances, seminars and workshops.

“I am delighted to launch this exciting new building in the centre of the city providing a valuable resource for the arts community and the wider community.  Supporting the cultural life of the city enables Dublin to grow as an attractive place for its citizens and visitors.  Services like the LAB are a valuable way for Dublin city to engage with artists and a wonderful way for communities to engage with artists" said the Lord Mayor.

The City Arts Officer, Jack Gilligan, says “The LAB has made a huge contribution to the City Council’s capacity to deliver a high quality arts service. It has enabled us to support artists and innovative ideas and to engage all sectors of the community in exciting arts projects”.

Notes to the Editor

The LAB Gallery aims to provide significant opportunities to further artists’ careers and is committed to supporting emerging artists and providing opportunities for first solo shows.  It operates as a public rather than a commercial gallery.  The LAB provides a facility for artists to meet and hold professional development workshops.  This year it entered into a new partnership with MAVis, a Masters of Arts programme, provided by the Institute of Art, Design & Technology.

The LAB Gallery40 Exhibitions 06-08 This book has been commissioned to document the exhibitions that have taken place in The LAB thus far.  Copies of the book will be available on the day.
