Dublin City Council has won the Award for Local Authority of the Year 2008.
The award was presented to Dublin City Manager, John Tierney at the fifth annual Chambers Ireland Excellence in Local Government Awards ceremony which took place in the Crowne Plaza Hotel, Santry on the 6th November 2008.
Dublin City Council also won an award in the Social and Community Development category for the Memorial Court Development. This development in Islandbridge is a modern development of sixty-six apartments for older persons.
The Chambers Awards aim to acknowledge and encourage innovation and best practice among Ireland’s Local Authorities and to foster a partnership approach between Chambers, businesses and respective Local Authorities. The Award for Local Authority of the Year is presented to the most accomplished and forward-thinking Local Authority that demonstrates additionality to, or innovation regarding, the day to day functions/operation of local authorities.
John Tierney, Dublin City Manager, commenting on the award said, “I would like to take this opportunity to thank the elected members for their continued support and the staff of the City Council for their dedication and hard work in delivering the wide range of services supplied by the Council to the citizens of Dublin”.
