The new Ballyfermot Leisure Centre and The Base will be officially opened by Councillor Charlie Ardagh, representing the Lord Mayor, at 2 p.m. on Tuesday 4th November 2008. Located on Blackditch Road, Ballyfermot the 4,100 sq.m centre provides state of the art sports and leisure facilities. Adjacent to the new centre is The Base a 1,100 sq.m youth, community and childcare facility.
The centre offers a full range of swimming and fitness classes supervised by fully qualified staff (see Notes to the Editor). Unlike other private facilities the Ballyfermot Leisure Centre operates on a Pay As You Go basis.

Notes to the Editor:
The development of the new complex commenced in October 2004 and was completed in June 2008 when it was handed over to Dublin City Council for fit-out.
Ballyfermot Leisure Centre comprises a six lane 25m pool with movable floor, a fully equipped gym, large aerobics studio, and 33m fully equipped sports hall for basketball, volleyball, badminton and indoor football. Six flood lit 5-s-side pitches, steam room and sauna, children’s party area and facilities for community meetings. The Leisure Centre caters for special needs and will be managed to the highest audited standards (White Flag standard).
Opening hours are from 7.00 a.m. to 10.00 p.m. on weekdays, 9.00 a.m. to 6.00 p.m. on Saturdays and 10.00 a.m. to 4.00 p.m. on Sundays.
The Base – the Ballyfermot Youth Care Centre and Childcare Facility will be managed and run separately to Dublin City Council. The youth centre accommodation includes a performance space, crèche, health consultation and art rooms, recording studio, multi-media lab and a chill out space with a café.
The total project (Leisure Centre and The Base) cost €25M and has been supported through funding from the Department of Arts, Sports and Tourism, Department of Justice, the VEC, RAPID, Urban, the HSE and Pobal.
