‘St. Andrews ‘Talk About Youth Project’’ in association with Dublin City Council will welcome 40 young visitors from Slovakia, Finland, Romania and Portugal this August. The theme of the Youth Exchange will focus on ‘Youth Participation’ allowing these young people hands on experience and involvement in various activities in Dublin and Cavan.
As part of the programme Dublin City Council, Sports & Leisure Services Section and ‘St. Andrews ‘Talk About Youth Project’’ have organised a three day Gaelic Games Festival, to promote Irish culture, sports and youth participation.
Dublin City Council’s Lord Mayor says "Participation in programmes such as the St. Andrews 'Talk About Youth' project offers young people an opportunity to value their own culture and learn about others. There is no better way to prepare our citizens of tomorrow".
Festival Breakdown as follows:
Thurs 14 August 1.30p.m.
- Clanna Gael Fontenoy GAA Club, Ringsend, Hurling Coaching Sessions followed by mini tournament:
Friday 15 August 10.30a.m.
- Visit to Croke Park Stadium and Museum:
Saturday 16 August 10.30a.m.
- Visit to Multi Sport Pitch, Pearse House with opportunity to participate in Gaelic Football Caching Session
In addition to the Sporting Opportunities, these 40 participants with a further 10 from St. Andrew’s Resource Centre, Pearse Street will take part in a weeklong residential activity programme in Cavan Outdoor Education Centre. The five nations involved will be required to make presentations about their own culture and cook traditional foods from each country.
Note to the Editor: The youth project have been taking part in youth exchange programmes over the past few years and have visited Slovakia, Finland, and England, Wales and Scotland. They hope to travel to Portugal, Russia and the Philippines in the future.
