The Lord Mayor of Dublin Cllr Eibhlin Byrne will present the prizes for the City Neighbourhoods Awards 2008 at a ceremony in the Civic Offices, Wood Quay, Dublin 8 on Thursday 25th September at 5pm.
The Dublin City Neighbourhoods Competition has become very popular among residents and business associations alike. The City Council actively encourages entries from residents, schools and businesses. The best entrants from each of the five City Council administrative Areas were selected to go forward to the Citywide Competition and the overall winner will be announced at the ceremony this evening. The winners will be nominated for the Living Dublin Awards sponsored by 'The Irish Times'.
The Lord Mayor Eibhlin Byrne said ”At the core of this competition is a commitment by local businesses and residents to work together for their city. This partnership is vital to ensure that Dublin remains a city which continues to offer a good quality of life for all. In presenting these awards I would like to acknowledge the unselfish contribution made by all those being honoured at this ceremony.”
Mr John Tierney, Dublin’s City Manager said “this competition is an annual event since 2005 and it is Dublin City Council’s way of saying thank you to all those individuals and groups who have made a contribution to Dublin and its citizens. The quality of entries has strengthened from year to year. Dublin can be proud of everyone who contributes their effort and time to enhance their street or neighbourhood, their school or business. They all have shown pride in their city”.
