The Red Stables Summer Art Programme 2010, St Anne’s Park, Dublin 3
At last it’s time to emerge from hibernation to celebrate the splendour of our natural landscape and in particular, the beauty of St Anne’s Park.
Artists in The Red Stables Artists’ Studios have been busy making new work in preparation for solo and group exhibitions, international residencies and exchanges, as well as furthering post-graduate study and investigation. Summertime provides the public with a chance to see what the artists do at The Red Stables, how their careers are evolving and how important The Red Stables is in promoting contemporary visual arts practice both at home and abroad.
In the four years since its opening, The Red Stables has provided affordable studios to over 50 Irish and international artists from which to make new work and connect to a network of support within the Dublin arts scene. The studios have also fostered the establishment of an active community of artists working with contemporary practices within the local community in and around St Anne’s Park and Dublin 3.
Due to the exceptional standard of their work, Dublin City Council Arts Office is fortunate to be attracting partnerships with acclaimed arts organisations in supporting public projects and programmes which will be presented as part of The Red Stables Summer Art Programme 2010. This year’s visual art programme will showcase work in a wide variety of media encompassing painting, sculpture and installation, and programme highlights will include The Irish Residential Studio Award Exhibition with work by Tadhg McSweeney, Paul McKinley, Maria McKinney and Niall de Buitleár, and Hopeful Structures, an exhibition of work by Mark Clare and Fionnuala Hanahoe curated by Sally Timmons as part of the new Emerging Curator Programme.
It is our hope that the ideas and approaches presented in the workshops, exhibitions and events taking place from May to August 2010 will interest and excite the public on their visit to The Red Stables, whether as first-timers or regulars, children or adults. Visitors can even extend their stay by dropping in to our partners in the delectable Tír na nÓg Caife and ever-popular Saturday Food Market.
During the summer you can also watch out for other highlights of the Dublin City Summer Arts Programme taking place in various locations in and around Dublin city, such as the Bealtaine Festival of Creativity for Older People, the International Dublin Writers Festival, St Anne’s Rose Festival, The Northside Music Festival and Opera in the Open.
