As Gaeilge
Rathmines Library has reopened with 3 self-service kiosks which allow customers to:
- Borrow, renew and return books, DVDs etc.
- Access account information
Why self-service?
Apart from the convenience to you, self-service further enhances your visit to the library by allowing staff more time to assist you on a one-to-one basis.
How does it work?
Dublin City Public Libraries’ self-service kiosks use RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) technology. All library items are individually tagged and the self-service kiosks can read the tags using radio frequency technology to identify them.
Is it simple to use?
Yes, the kiosks are very simple to use with on-screen, illustrated instructions and touch-screen operation. Borrowing a book is as simple as:
- Pressing the on-screen “Borrow” button
- Scanning your library card
- Placing your books on the kiosk’s shelf
That’s it! The books are issued to your card.
What if I have difficulty using self-service?
Don’t worry, just ask member of staff to help you.
Where can I use self-service?
So far, we have self-service kiosks in Pembroke, Rathmines and Raheny libraries. We hope to roll out self-service to all city branches on a phased basis.
