You need a full Driving Licence to drive on public roads in Ireland. When your licence expires you will need to renew it.
You can get a licence for 3 or 10 years duration. However, if you are over 70 you must submit a medical report with your application that will state your Doctor's recommendation whether your application needs a review in 1 year or 3 years.
If you need to renew a Learner Driving Permit, follow this link.
