Dublin’s Lord Mayor Eibhlin Byrne officially launched Dublin City Council’s new “Parking Tag” system at the Mansion House, Dawson Street, Dublin 2 on Thursday 21st May 2009 at 10am.
Suitable for all motorists, the tag scheme will compliment the existing Pay & Display arrangements and will work in every paid parking area of Dublin City. Easy to use, the tag will provide the motorist with the choice of paying for on-street car parking without having to buy a ticket from a ticket machine. The tag is ready to use almost immediately, once initially purchased through either a ‘Pay as You Go’ or ‘Account’ option, and simply requires registration and activation by telephone or online.
‘Pay as You Go’ customers can top up their credit at designated Payzone retail outlets, while ‘Account’ customers will top up automatically by a previously agreed amount. The account option will particularly suit both frequent and corporate users and fleet managers.
The benefits to the Motorist are:
- Not having to worry about searching for a ticket machine or looking for change;
- Paying for parking by phoning a dedicated phone number and following automated instructions – alternatively a parking session can be booked by text messaging;
- Extending the parking session (subject to the maximum time period permitted) by making another short telephone call or sending a text message;
- Booking a text reminder in advance of expiry of the parking period.
The tag must be displayed on the vehicle windscreen at all times while parked.
If motorists do not wish to avail of this new system they can continue to use the existing parking ticket vending machines. In this instance paid parking tickets should be displayed in front windscreens in the normal way.
“Dublin is very much open for business and we are pleased to add ‘Parking Tags’ to those initiatives which provide the motorist with alternatives and makes coming into our city centre a more convenient and pleasant experience for them”, said the Lord Mayor.
The tag is bar-coded and easy to enforce and will quickly confirm to parking enforcement staff if cars are legally parked.
The City Council is offering €5 free parking for customers who register and activate their accounts early.
