Hole in The Wall Road and Grange Road

The Quality Bus Network Project Office (QBNPO) in association with Dublin City Council has prepared a preliminary design for the improvement of bus priority measures at the following locations: 

  • Hole in The Wall Road and Grange Road
    Dublin 13

Pursuant to the requirements of the above, notice is hereby given of the intention to implement the measures described below:

  • New signalised junction at Hole in the Wall Road / Grange Road to replace the roundabout with pedestrian crossings on all 4 arms;
  • Realigned and signalised junction at Grange Abbey Road / Hole in the Wall Road with toucan and pedestrian crossings;
  • New bus lanes on Grange Road from junction with Hole in The Wall Road a distance of 410m towards Baldoyle for extension of Dublin Bus Route 29A. The proposed bus lanes will be combined bus and cycle lanes and operate from 0700-1900hrs, Monday to Saturday; 
  • Extend bus lanes on N32 approach and outbound Hole in the Wall Road to junction with Grange Road; 
  • New footpath to link bus stop on the north side of N32 approach to junction with Hole in The Wall Road with existing footpath;
  • Reconstruction of pedestrian footpaths and off-road cycleways along the scheme where required;
  • Toucan crossings to replace pedestrian crossings in Grange Road at junction with Grange Abbey Crescent and opposite Donaghmede Park;
  • Inbound on-road cycle lanes in Hole in the Wall Road and Grange Road;
  • Upgrades to existing bus stops to incorporate new shelters and raised kerbing.
     

Plans / drawings of the proposed scheme may be inspected or purchased at a fee not exceeding the reasonable cost of making a copy from Friday 25th September 2009 to Friday 6th November 2009 at:

  • Dublin City Council, Wood Quay, Dublin 8, at the planning counter between the hours of 9:00am – 4.30pm Monday to Friday.   
  • North Central Area Offices, Bunratty Road, Coolock, Dublin 17, between the hours of 9:00am – 4.30pm Monday to Friday.   

Submissions or observations with respect to this matter dealing with the proper planning and sustainable development of the area in which the proposed works would be undertaken, may be made in writing to:

Quality Bus Corridor Berkeley Road and Berkeley Street

(From Blessington Street to the North Circular Road)

The submission period has now ended for this scheme. A report is currently being compiled detailing all the submissions that have been received. This report will be presented to Dublin City Council for decision. 

The proposed measures are as follows:

  • New northbound (outbound) bus lane from the junction of Berkeley Street and Nelson Street to the junction of Berkeley Road and North Circular Road, a distance of approximately 375 metres;
  • Removal of existing pay-and-display and permit parking on the east side of Berkeley Road at the following locations: -
    • outside premises nos. 8-12;
    • outside St. Joseph’s Priory;
    • from St. Joseph’s Church to Eccles Street.
  • Upgraded signalised pedestrian crossing on Berkeley Road, just north of the junction with Geraldine Street;
  • Upgraded signalised junction, to incorporate upgraded pedestrian facilities, at the junction of Berkeley Road and North Circular Road;
  • Upgrades to existing bus stops to incorporate new shelters and raised kerbing;
  • Upgrading existing raised entry treatments / traffic calming measures provided at the junction of Berkeley Street / Nelson Street and Berkeley Road / Eccles Street);
  • Reconstruction of pedestrian footpaths along the scheme where required;
  • Construction of pedestrian refuge south of the junction of Berkeley Street and Nelson Street;
  • Road resurfacing will take place where required;

The above works will entail minor carriageway widening at various locations, as shown on the scheme drawings.

The proposed bus lanes will operate from 0700-1900hrs, Monday to Saturday.

Proposed Quality Bus Corridor

R132 North of Swords

(From the Tesco Roundabout, Lanestown, Donabate to the Seatown Roundabout, Swords) 

Pursuant to the requirements of the above, notice is hereby given of the proposed construction by Fingal County Council of the R132 North of Swords QBC scheme.  It is intended to provide bus priority along the R132 by converting the existing hard shoulders to 24-hour bus lanes between the roundabout serving the Tesco Distribution Centre at Lanestown, Donabate and the Seatown Roundabout, Swords.

The proposed works comprise: -

  1. The construction of 3.2 kilometres of Quality Bus Corridor inbound on the hard shoulder of the R132 from the Tesco Roundabout to the Seatown Roundabout.
  2. The construction of approximately 300 metres of Quality Bus Corridor outbound from the Seatown Roundabout to Estuary Roundabout and again outbound for a distance of approximately 400 metres on the approach to the Lissenhall / M1 interchange.
  3. Minor carriageway widening (less than 1.0 metre) at various locations along the scheme, as shown on the scheme drawings.
  4. The scheme provides for the relocation of existing underground services and strengthening of the carriageway where required.
  5. Bus stops will be upgraded where required.
  6. The scheme provides for the provision of appropriate road signage and lining.

Plans and particulars of the proposed scheme as shown on the Public Display Drawings are available for inspection or purchase at a fee not exceeding the reasonable cost of making a copy thereof from Tuesday 22nd September 2009 to Friday the 6th November 2009 at: -

The Green Route QBC - Old Bawn Road

The Quality Bus Network Project Office in partnership with South Dublin County Council has prepared a preliminary design to introduce bus lanes on a section of the Green Route QBC on Old Bawn Road between Firhouse Road and the N81. The scheme will provide the maximum bus priority along the route and will involve widening of Old Bawn Road. It will be necessary to remove a number of trees along the route. Some of these will be replaced with semi-mature trees at Dodder Valley Park while some will be replaced with young trees at the same position. The scheme will also provide improved cycle facilities, improved safety measures and the upgrading of pedestrian crossing facilities.

Public Exhibition Details

Drawings will be available for inspection or purchase at a fee not exceeding the reasonable cost of making a copy during normal working hours from 11th November 2009 to 23rd December 2009 at the following locations:-

  • South Dublin County Council Offices, County Hall, Tallaght, Dublin 24.
  • County Hall Library, County Hall, Tallaght, Dublin 24.
