Dublin City Council is responsible for the maintenance of roads within the Dublin city area.  This includes ensuring that all roads are passable and safe in the event of frost or snow. 

A winter maintenance plan has been prepared for the gritting of roads in the event of frost or snow and this plan determines how the council reacts to the weather forecasts that have been issued.

 In general this plan prioritises the routes that will be treated – National Primary, National Secondary, Regional and Bus Routes and particular areas of risk e.g. stagnant water, higher ground and bridges.

This work is normally carried out between 3.30 and 6.30 in the morning.

Other areas may be treated at the request of the emergency services.
