In association with Dublin City Council and Project Arts Centre, Theatre Artist in Residence Annabelle Comyn is offering workshops in Directing : The Power of Words. The workshops will focus on language in contemporary texts.
Stage 1 : Selected Directors will partake in a week long practical workshop led by Annabelle Comyn. A selection of contemporary texts will be used to investigate, through directing, how structure, language, words and rhythm inform interpretation of meaning, character, staging and aesthetic.
Stage 2 : Each director will be given a day to develop a twenty minute piece of text with professional actors. This offers each director the opportunity to structure their own day’s work and explore their response to a selected text (as informed by Stage 1). The day will be mentored by Annabelle Comyn to support and assist the director when necessary.
The workshops will culminate in a group feedback session.
Directors will also be asked to participate in monthly gatherings to discuss their work, work they have seen and more AND will be invited to engage in talks/discussions with artists organised around work programmed at Project Arts Centre and Dublin City Council’s The LAB.
Who should apply: We are looking for Dublin based theatre directors with a demonstrable background in directing for professional theatre - whether you are at the early stages of your career or are more experienced and looking to further explore your approach to text based work. We are interested in gathering a good mix of professionals that are enthusiastic and dedicated.
Timeline: Applicants need to make sure that they are able to attend all five days of Stage 1 ( 31st January, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th February 2011 @ The LAB). Stage 2 is flexible and will be arranged to suit availability. Participants are also required to contribute time and research to smaller, less formal events held later in the year.
