366 Moons - a painting installation by Louise Neiland - Friday 26th June 6pm – 8pm

The LAB, brought to you by Dublin City Council, is pleased to invite you to the preview of 366 Moons a painting installation by Louise Neiland Friday 26th June 6pm – 8pm. Exhibition Continues 27th June to 18th July 2009

Louise Neiland's current practice is engaged with the challenge of depicting the nebulous and intangible nature of time through the use of still images. It was the" infinite" and "non-physical" nature of time that attracted her to the challenge of depicting this subject.

Dublin based Neiland began working on this body of work in 2008, a leap year, which presented an opportunity to focus on the human manipulation of the lunar year, where we insert an extra day – one year in four – to keep our efforts of measuring time in line with the immutable timepiece of the solar system. 366 moons.

Neiland's attempt to create images that relate to this understanding and measurement of time has led to a series of thoughtful and haunting paintings.  The exhibition includes the work show in Neiland’s MA show which “evoked a cosmic scale in a bravura painting installation” Aidan Dunne, Art Critic, Irish Times.  Neiland has continued to develop this series of large-scale oil on paper paintings to new work specially created for the LAB gallery exhibition.
