Exhibition continues until Friday 23rd September 2011
Commissioned by Dublin City Council, this sculptural work entitled “Afterwards” was developed from a body of research looking at the technological mechanisms and natural phenomena that occur underneath the city.
During this research Mark became aware of a substantial buried water channel known as the Pre-Glacial Liffey Channel that runs underneath the city centre. This starts downstream of Islandbridge and extends on out into Dublin Bay in a south-easterly direction. This journey has been mapped using data recorded from a series of boreholes that have been bored down from the surface along its path, its representation being made up of a crisscrossing of logic and subjectivity.
Taking this data as a starting point Mark also employed a system that merged logic and subjectivity in a process that became this sculptural work.
The LAB Gallery is open Monday – Saturday, 10am – 5 pm
