John Beattie will be using the gallery from 25th May - 5th June 2009 to carry out a form of studio based research, exploring ideas and perceptions relating to The Artist, The Studio and The Audience.
Through modes of representation and presentation of artwork in various contexts, Beattie’s work observes and interrogates discourse and relationships between contemporary practice and classical traditions, most recently with his current form of collaboration with the painter Thomas Ryan PPRHA (b.1929). A process-based, context specific body or research.
With his multi-disciplinary approach, Beattie will construct a staged studio where he will be present at various times for the audience/viewer to observe. However at various stages, the viewer may only observe the work in progress from the street, through The Lab’s large windows on foley street.
