The International Artists' Residential Studio

The aim of the International Artists’ Residential Studio is to encourage International Artists to visit Ireland, create work and actively exchange practice and expertise with artists, local arts initiatives and people living and working in Dublin city.

The Irish Artists’ Residential Studio Award

This one year award supports an emerging Irish visual artist at an early stage of their professional practice.

The Award includes:

  • Studio and living accommodation at a nominal rent of €200 per month
  • Inclusion in the exhibition programme at The LAB, Foley Street, Dublin 1
  • Administrative and curatorial support through Dublin City Council Arts Office
  • Meetings/Studio visits with curators and other arts professionals
  • Broadband Internet Access

 

Irish Residential Studio – Award Winner   Niall De Buitléar

 Dublin City Council is delighted announce Niall De Buitléar as recepient of the Irish Artists’ Residential Studio Award, 2009-2010.

Niall was born in 1983 in Dublin where he currently lives and works. In 2008 he had solo exhibitions at G126, Galway and at the Lab, Dublin.

He has also participated in the two person exhibitions Histories Matter at Wexford Arts Centre, 2009 and One Way or Another at Queen Street Studios, 2007.
His work has been featured in numerous group exhibitions including Dawning of an Aspect, Green on Red Gallery, Dublin 2009; Bookish: When Books Become Art, Lewis Glucksman Gallery, Cork, 2008; and An Exhibition In 5 Chapters, Contemporary Art Centre, Vilnius, 2007.

In 2006 and 2007 he completed a year long residency at Flax Art Studios in Belfast.
In 2008 he undertook residencies at Ard Bia, Berlin and the Limerick City Gallery of Art.  He has recently received The Emerging Artist Award from Wexford Arts Centre.

Niall will use his time in the Irish Residential Studio to develop a new body of work in sculpture and drawing. He intends to take advantage of the generous space by producing work on a larger scale than he has in the past and also plans to experiment with new materials and techniques.
