The city landscape is a valuable biodiversity resource. In 2005 Dublin City Council created the post of Biodiversity Officer and in February 2008 the first Biodiversity Action Plan (BAP) for the City was launched. Biodiversity Week, held annually every May, hosts a series of walks and talks to promote biodiversity in the City. The Council has taken these initiatives in recognition of the intrinsic importance of biodiversity to the well-being of the city’s citizens - our natural heritage is equally as important as the built heritage.
