Situated in the heart of Fairview between the DART line and Tolka, this 20 hectares park is noted for its seasonal bedding displays but also has valuable playing fields, a children's playground and tree-lined walks.  Originally a tidal mud flat which was used for land fill in the early 1900's, the park was developed in the late 1920's with Bye Laws formally adopted by the Corporation in 1934.   The park was significantly disrupted by the recent Dublin Port Tunnel works however proposals to (restore and) enhance the disturbed areas will be carried out when tunnel works near full completion.

Across the railway line is the Traffic School and all-weather 400 metre athletic track and five-a-side football pitches. Across the Fairview Road is Bram Stoker Park at Marino Crescent named in memory of the writer who was born at No. 15 and which was acquired by the Corporation in the mid 1980's.

Fairview Park Improvements 2010

The proposed improvements will include a newly designed high quality playground, upgrading of the seasonal bedding areas and include a newly designed outdoor performance area with some public seating.

We are about to start the public engagement phase which will take place during the month of April 2010. As part of this, a temporary sign will be erected in the location of the playground highlighting the new playground and seating area and the website will be regularly updated as the project progresses, and also keep an eye out for the local newspapers and notice boards in the neighbourhood. Initial layouts have been drafted at this stage and background research ranging from the feasibility of the feature bandstand to current play design ideas including the promoting the value of active recreation is being carried out by the Parks and Landscape Services Division.

It is intended that these improvements will form quite a significant modification to the park, creating an interesting focal point, and an exciting addition to Fairview Park.

Parks and Landscape Services Division welcome all thoughts, suggestions and comments in relation to the proposed improvements and are planning an open day in the Park, an evening meeting and hope to work with a couple of local schools in the coming weeks.Email your suggestions to parks@dublincity.ie
