Irish Statistics
The Central Statistics Office (CSO) is the main source for economic and social statistics in the Republic of Ireland.
In the Business Information Centre statistics (in hard/print copy) from the CSO are arranged into different subject areas as follows for your ease of use:

'Ireland North and South: A Statistical Profile' is a joint publication between the CSO and the Northern Ireland Statistics and Research Agency (NISRA). It draws together official social and economic statistics for the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland and tracks change over time.

The StatCentral.ie website contains official Irish statistics from the Central Statistics Office, government departments and other Irish agencies and bodies. Statistics are organised into five main themes (with sub themes) as follows: Business Sectors; Economy, Environment, Climate and Energy; Labour Market and Earnings; People and Society. The StatCentral portal is maintained by the Central Statistics Office.
Irish Census
Census figures for 1986, 1991, 1996, 2002 and 2006 are all available in hard/print copy. The next census will take place on Sunday 10 April 2011.
Small Area Population Statistics (SAPS) for Census 2006 are available online by visiting the Central Statistics Office (CSO) website. Simply click on the Census tab and select the “Census 2006 Small Area Population Statistics (SAPS)” option or enter SAPS into the search box at the top of the home page. SAPS contains 69 tables and is organised into 15 themes as follows:
- Sex, Age and Marital Status
- Migration, Ethnicity and Religion
- Irish language
- Families
- Private Households
- Housing
- Communal Establishments
- Economic Status
- Social Class and Socio-Economic Group
- Education
- Commuting
- Disability, Carers and Voluntary Work

Geographical searches can be carried out on the census home page as follows:
- If the street or townland name is known then the electoral division to which it belongs can be determined using the “Electoral Division (ED) by street or townland name” search facility.
- A Gazetteer that contains a listing of the streets in each of the Census Enumeration Areas (EAs) can also be searched. It is organised on a county basis.
- You can browse the SAPS themes by the following geographical areas: Census Enumeration Areas for Dublin, Cork, Galway, Limerick and Waterford including their suburbs; Dáil Constituencies, Electoral Divisions, Counties and Provinces; Gaeltacht Areas; Garda Regions, Divisions and Districts; Health Service Executive Areas; Local Electoral Areas; Regional Authority Areas; Towns with a population of 1,000 or over; Urban and Rural Areas of each county.
After selecting a geographical area you can then highlight the table(s) you require from the 69 shown.
