Music Collection

Dublin City Public Libraries has a significant music collection with most branches providing a range of music and music literature.

The main body of the collection is located in the Music Library, Ilac Shopping Centre.

This library makes music available in a broad range of formats, either recorded, in the case of CDs, DVDs, Blu-ray discs and CD-ROMs, or printed as with our Vocal Scores, Miniature Scores, Sheet music, Part-works, Libretti, and Songbooks.

These works include most music genres: Traditional Irish, Popular, Easy Listening, Country, Jazz, World, Sacred, and Classical to name but a few.

Other facilities available include CD sampling booths, keyboard self-learning facility, Headphones for listening to CDs and other recordings in the library and a song-line and CD-track database. Or you can learn an instrument through the First Notes Collection.

A large number of music periodicals can be browsed with previous issues also available.

The Music library serves the need of a broad range of people. Music students or those engaged in research often find our music reference books and periodical holdings essential.

We provide songbooks including Lieder, traditional ballads or modern power-chord classics from U2.

We also have a large range of Vocal Scores of both Opera and Musicals.

Apart from our extensive reference and lending services, what could be better than escaping for a leisurely afternoon, just browsing in this oasis of calm in the heart of the bustling city.

Use our web guide to find links to music websites.

Music PAL

Music PAL provides better access to Music Library collections.

If you are following a recognised educational course, an individual learning programme, or simply pursuing a special interest of your own you can ask for a Music PAL Access Card at the Music Library. The Access Card will allow you to visit and make use of the facilities at any of the libraries that are members of the Music PAL scheme (subject to certain conditions). You will be able to get advice and information from your own library on which other libraries in the scheme are likely to have the resources to meet your learning and information needs.
