1. Apply for a standard Residents’ Parking Permit
This permit is for you if you live in an area with restricted parking. To apply for a parking permit, follow these steps:
Step 1: Complete the Residents’ Parking Permit Application Form.
Request by post
If you would like to have an application form posted out to you, you can request it using our Self Service Portal. Please select Request an Application Form from the list.
Find out how many permits you are entitled to purchase at the bottom of the page.
Step 2: Return the completed form to us
Return the completed form by post or in person to the address below.
Your application must include the following:
- A current insurance certificate for your vehicle at the permit address
- A vehicle licensing certificate or registration book for the vehicle at that address
- Your current driving licence
- 2 current alternative proofs of your residency, e.g. utility bills, financial statement etc.
The appropriate fee in cheque or money order, made payable to ‘Dublin City Council’ (please do not send cash in the post). Alternatively, you can call into our public office at the address below to pay in person.
The standard fee for a resident’s parking permit is:

€50 for 1 year and €80 for 2 years if you live in a house.

€400 for 1 year or €750 for 2 years if your building contains more than 4 housing units, has off-road parking available to it and is located in a low demand zone (includes converted houses and apartment blocks).

€400 for 1 year or €750 for 2 years if your building is a converted house, contains more than 4 housing units, has off-road parking available to it and is located in a heavy demand zone
2. Renew your parking permit
- We will normally contact you when your permit needs to be renewed. If you do not hear from us, contact us at the address below.
- If you wish to renew your permit you must do so within 28 days of the expiry date. You will not be able to renew it after this date and any late application received will be treated as a first time application, which may affect your eligibility. Remember, it is your responsibility to ensure that a valid permit is displayed at all times.
The issuing of renewal notices is a courtesy and the Council will not entertain any claim for loss or damages incurred which a resident claims arises from alleged failure to receive such notice.

3. Apply for a parking permit for people who visit you
You can only buy a Visitor’s Parking Permit if you are eligible to buy a Resident’s Parking Permit. To apply for a visitor’s parking permit, follow these steps:
Step 1: Complete the Visitors’ Parking Permit Application Form.
Request by post
If you would like to have an application form posted out to you, you can request it using our Self Service Portal. Please select Request an Application Form from the list.
Visitor Permits are sold in multiples of 4 (minimum purchase 4)
Step 2: Return the completed form to us
Return the completed form by post or in person to the address below.
Your application must include the following:
- 2 current alternative proofs of your residency, e.g. utility bills, bank or credit card statement etc
- The appropriate fee in cheque or money order, made payable to ‘Dublin City Council’ (please do not send cash in the post). Alternatively, you can call into our public office at the address below to pay in person.
- €1.25 per permit (24 hour validity)
Alternatively if you hold a current standard Resident’s Permit:
Resident’s Parking Permit Holders can purchase Visitor Parking Permits over the phone through our Customer Service Centre on 01 222 2259.
Visitor Parking Permits cost €1.25 each, and are sold in multiples of four. The minimum telephone order accepted is €20.
Payments can be made by laser or credit card.
Our Customer Service Centre is open from 8:00am to 6:00pm, Monday to Friday. Outside of office hours, you can email your details to parkingpermits@dublincity.ie A Customer Service Agent will call you to take payment on the next working day. Please note that you should never send your laser/credit card details via email.
Note: Your Visitor’s Parking Permit will be posted to you at your address.
4. Apply for a Non-Resident Family Member permit (Carer’s) Permit
This is for people who visit you for the purpose of providing care, but do not live with you. To apply for a non-resident family member permit, follow these steps:
Step 1: Complete the Carer’s Parking Permit Application Form
Request by post
If you would like to have an application form posted out to you, you can request it using our Self Service Portal. Please select Request an Application Form from the list.

A non-resident family member (carer’s) permit may be issued with a maximum of 2 vehicle registration numbers on the permit.
Step 2: Return the completed form to us
Return the completed form by post or in person to the address below.
Your application must include the following:
- 2 current alternative proofs of residency for the person being cared for (i.e. the resident), e.g. utility bills, bank or credit card statement etc.
- A current insurance certificate for the non-resident’s (carer’s) vehicle.
- A letter from the resident’s doctor confirming that the he/she requires on-going daily care for chronic illness.
- The non-resident’s (carer’s) current driving licence.
- The appropriate fee in cheque or money order, made payable to ‘Dublin City Council’ (please do not send cash in the post). Alternatively, you can call into our public office at the address below to pay in person.
- 1 year permit: €50
- Higher fees may apply if the resident being cared for lives in a building with more than 4 housing units and has off-street parking available to it.
Notes:
- Photocopies of your insurance certificate and driving licence are acceptable.
- Your non-resident’s (carer’s) Parking Permit will be posted to you at your address
5. Apply for a Residential Institution Employee’s Permit
This is for certain people who work in residential institutions- please check the back of the application form for eligibility. To apply for a permit, follow these steps
Step 1: Complete the Residential Institution Employee’s Application Form
Request by post
If you would like to have an application form posted out to you, you can request it using our Self Service Portal. Please select Request an Application Form from the list.
The maximum number of residents parking permits that may be held concurrently by employees of any one Residential Institution is 2.
Step 2: Return the completed form to us
Return the completed form by post or in person to the address below.
Your application must include the following:
- Proof that your employment requires you to reside overnight in the institution for more than 183 nights per year.
- A current insurance certificate for your vehicle.
- Your current driving licence.
- The appropriate fee in cheque or money order, made payable to ‘Dublin City Council’ (please do not send cash in the post).
- Alternatively, you can call into our public office at the address below to pay in person.
Note: Please note that your residential institution employee’s permit will be posted to you at your address.
6. Apply to change your parking permit's vehicle details
Step 1:Complete the following form to change the details of the vehicle(s) for which your parking permit is required.

Your application must include the following:
- A current insurance certificate for your new vehicle
- Your current Residents Parking Permit is returned with your application.
