College Green Public Transport Priority Measure

During the peak traffic periods of 7am to 10am and 4pm to 7pm Monday to Friday, only buses, taxis and bicycles will be permitted access to the College Green area.  There are no restrictions outside these hours, and none on Saturdays and Sundays. Use the link below (Orbital Routes) to find your way to the different areas of the city. 

Access to all car parks in the city centre will be maintained.  The QBN Project Office has created a series of maps to direct you to your chosen car park.

North Clondalkin Quality Bus Corridor Enhancements -Thomas Street to James’s Street

This scheme is for the improvement of bus priority, cycle and pedestrian facilities along Thomas Street and James's Street from the junction of High Street and Nicholas Street to the junction of James's Street and Steeven's Lane. It also runs on Meath Street from its junction with Thomas Street to its junction with Hanbury Lane. Part of this scheme is the Architectural Conservation Area of the Thomas Street & Environs of the Dublin City Development Plan 2005-2011 .

The scheme includes:

  • Extension of inbound and outbound shared bus/cycle lanes with the objective of providing first priority to buses along the route;
  • Widening of footpaths (inbound west of St Augustine Street, inbound and outbound between Bridgefoot Street and Stevens Lane, western side of Meath Street and western side of the Thomas Court junction) to facilitate the large volume of pedestrians in the area;
  • Narrowing the footpath inbound at the bus stop & parking outside the Post Office and outbound at the taxi rank east of St Catherines Lane West;
  • Upgrade of bus stops to QBC standard by providing Real Time Passenger Information (RTPI) facilities & facilities for the Mobility Impaired and Disabled;
  • Provision of a new signalised pedestrian crossings on Thomas Street at a location east of Crane Street and at Watling Street.
  • New pedestrian crossing phase on the traffic signals across Thomas Court;
  • Right Turn ban onto Thomas Court in the inbound direction;
  • Ancillary drainage works, carriageway and footpaths resurfacing;
  • Improvement of public lighting. 

Current Status

Public consultation process is complete and the design details are being finalised.

It is expected that the scheme will be ready to go to construction in the 3rd quarter of 2011 subject to funding

 

St Stephens Green East

Buses currently experience delays in the contra flow bus lane on St Stephens Green East.
This scheme will improve bus flow by widening the contra flow bus lane and will improve facilities for the mobility impaired and cyclists.

  • In particular the scheme will provide the following benefits:
  • Pinch Point Removed from the Quality Bus Corridor Network
  • Improved cycle facilities
  • Accessible bus stops
  • Improved road safety
