Bray Town Council

The Quality Bus Network Project Office on behalf of Bray town Council has proposed for a new Quality Bus Corridor (QBC) in Bray Town. Bray Town, in common with many towns, suffers from traffic congestion due in part to high levels of private car use. By providing QBC’s through the town, we aim to make the bus a much more attractive travel option.

The proposal include the introduction of a northbound bus lane in Bray Town on the Main Street and the adjacent approach roads The scheme will include the upgraded of footpaths, pedestrian crossings and bus stops. Some on-street parking will be relocated. Full details of the scheme are shown on the scheme drawings attached below.

The Bray Quality Bus Corridor has the following objectives:

  • The introduction of bus priority measures to provide time-savings for bus passengers
  • The better provision for integration of different transport modes
  • To provide for the general safety of all road users, in particular pedestrians & cyclists
  • The provision of improved facilities for the mobility impaired and disabled
  • The upgrade of all bus stops within the scheme extents, to provide for the introduction of real time passengers information digital displays
  • The improvement of access between surrounding residential, retail, health, educational and employment centres about the Bray Town
  • The provision of a more reliable and attractive public transport service for Bray Town
  • The continued integration of a Quality Bus Network for the Greater Dublin Area
  • To support the continued integration of existing and future public transport in Bray Town
  • These objectives are to recognise a more appropriate balance of the use of road space for all road users

Current Status

The scheme is at detailed design stage. Bray Bridge over the Dargle River is being designed separately and it consists of extending the width of the bridge so as to introduce a bus lane while pedestrians will be catered for by providing footbridges on either side of the bridge. It is envisaged that the construction of the bridge will commence before the street works.
The anticipated construction start date is Q1 2011.
