Description
The Sandyford Road Quality Bus Corridor Scheme is in its entirety 1650 Meters in length which, broken into two components will involve the following:
- Total length of road upgrading and widening 1450m.
- An additional section of road remarking only, of 200m.
The road widening and upgrading of the Sandyford Road is from its intersection with Wyckham Way up to and including the intersection of the Sandyford Road and Blackthorn Drive. The additional road markings are from Blackthorn Drive as far as the M50 overpass.
These measures will facilitate a number of additions to the existing Sandyford Road as detailed below:
- Total Inbound Bus Lane 550m
- Total Outbound Bus Lane 350m
- Total on Road Cycling Facilities 2275m
- Total off Road Cycling Facilities 900m
In addition to these improvements the scheme will also include for:
- Reconstruction to formation of 1600m2 of failed road pavement.
- Road re-surfacing 19,000m2
- Complete replacement of existing Surface Water Sewer, which was deemed inadequate.
- Provision of new upgraded public lighting system.
- An additional 130m of right turning lanes along the route while retaining the left turning filter lane and right turning lanes at the Blackthorn Drive intersection.
- Upgrading of existing Signal Controlled Junctions along with the introduction of a new signalized junction in place of the existing roundabout at the Balally Road.
- Improved pedestrian facilities including additional pedestrian crossings and two Toucan crossing facilities, along with tactile paving at all controlled and uncontrolled pedestrian crossings.
- Raised Entry Treatment at all uncontrolled Junctions along the route.
The aims of this scheme are:
- To improve the reliability of bus journey times.
- To provide an attractive alternative to the private car and thereby encourage a modal shift to public transport.
- To improve cyclist and pedestrian facilities as detailed above.
- To improve existing road surface conditions.
Current Position
The construction of this scheme is now complete.
