Report a risk to public health

A risk to public health can take the form of a blocked drain, rotting organic waste (e.g. a dead animal) or anything else that poses a risk to human or animal health. These are often called 'public health nuisances'.

Report a health risk

To report a problem call: (01) 222 3739

Or contact our Environmental Health Section at the address below.

An Environmental Health Officers will then inspect the problem.

If we agree that it is a health nuisance, we will contact the relevant person or organisation to deal with the issue. If necessary we can force that person or organisation to make improvements.

Our powers to do so derive from the Sanitary Services Acts, 1964.

Private drains are the responsibility of property owners

A blocked or overflowing drain is the responsibility of the owners of the properties who share it. Dublin City Council does not clear these drains. You must employ a private drainage company or engineer to solve the problem.
