The Dublin Region Water Conservation Project was led by Dublin City Council and along with Wicklow, Dun Laoghaire/Rathdown, South Dublin, Fingal and Kildare County Councils put in place a network of water meters and telemetry to track the distribution of water throughout the Dublin Region. The project costing in the region of €47 million reduced leakage from 42.5% to 28%.
The second phase of project is underway. Many of our Watermains are over 80 years old and have come to the end of their useful life. The Department of the Environment announced that a further €119 million is to fund the Rehabilitation of the watermains in the Greater Dublin Region.
Rehabilitation
The purpose of the Dublin Region Watermains Rehabilitation Project is to conserve water in the Greater Dublin Region by the rehabilitation of those areas of the network that will yield the greatest water savings in the most cost effective manner and deliver the project within a period of six years.
