Aircraft Noise Complaints
Aircraft noise is exempt from the EPA Act 1992. The Air Quality Monitoring & Noise Control Unit does not deal with complaints about aircraft. You can contact the Dublin Airport Authority on (01) 814 1111 to advise them of your complaint.
Traffic Noise Complaint
The Air Pollution Monitoring & Noise Control Unit does not deal with complaints about traffic emissions. Public Transport emission queries are dealt with by An Gardaí Siochána at the Carriage Office, Dublin Castle, Dame St, Dublin 2.at Tel: 6669850.
Noise from Roadworks
All road works must have a permit that is issued by the Roads and Traffic section of Dublin City Council. The times permitted vary depending on permit. Contact Roads and Traffic at 222 2222.
Dog Barking Complaint
The Air Pollution Monitoring & Noise Control Unit does not deal with complaints about dogs barking. The Culture & Recreation Department can deal with this complaint under the Dog Control Act. They can be contacted through the Customer Services Section at (01) 222 2222.
Noise caused by public transport – LUAS / Dublin Bus
Complaints about the traffic noise are not dealt with by the Air Quality Monitoring and Noise Control Unit. Complaints regarding noise from public transport depots can be investigated by the Air Quality Monitoring and Noise Control Unit.
Noise from beer gardens/smoking areas
Complaints about noise from patrons in outdoor smoking areas or beer gardens are not dealt with by the Air Quality Monitoring & Noise Control Unit. A private action can be taken under Section 108 of the EPA Act 1992. Click here for more information
Noise disturbance from individuals on the public thoroughfare
The Air Quality Monitoring & Noise Control Unit does not deal with noise nuisance caused by individuals behaving in a loud or rowdy manner. When such instances occur on a public thoroughfare, then it may be a public order offence and should be dealt with by An Gardaí Síochána. Contact your local Garda station.
