Problems with your water supply

Dublin City Council prides itself on providing a consistent supply of high quality drinking water to our customers' homes.

Water is supplied in Dublin on a Regional basis. The Region includes all of Dublin City and County and parts of Wicklow and Kildare. On a typical day 540 million litres of water is collected from our rivers, cleaned and made safe to drink at four main treatment plants in the Dublin Region. Three of these are operated by Dublin City Council at Ballymore Eustace (River Liffey), Roundwood (River Vartry) and Ballyboden (River Dodder). Fingal County Council operates the treatment plant at Leixlip (River Liffey).

Occasionally, however, drinking water is not up to standard and this can be for a variety of reasons.

When you examine your drinking water, it should appear clear and bright and it should be of consistent pressure.

If it is discoloured, cloudy or has an unwanted taste or smell, or if you have experienced a loss of supply or poor pressure you should contact us immediately at the details below.

Some problems with the water supply may be the responsibility of Dublin City Council and some may be the responsibility of the Customer. See below for more details:

The following problems may be encountered occasionally by our Customers. The links below are intended to provide information only on what the possible causes of any potential problems you may encounter with your drinking water:
