The current charges in Dublin City for 2012 for metered water are as follows:

Are domestic properties being charged?

Currently domestic properties are not directly charged for water.

Who are non-domestic consumers?

Examples include the following - farms, offices, factories, schools, shops, sports clubs, restaurants, public houses, and commercial activities within domestic residences, etc. In order that charges are applied in a fair, transparent and equitable manner, meters have been installed on all non-domestic connections. The metering of all non-domestic consumers allows for usage based water charges, therefore, the less water you use, the less you pay.

How are charges calculated on metered consumers?

Water charges are based on actual consumption. The less water you use, the less you pay. The charge for wastewater is normally based on the water in - water out principle i.e. the volume of wastewater will be deemed to be equal to the volume of water supplied to the premises. If you have a water connection, but are not connected to the public sewer, water charges will continue to be charged on a consumption basis, but the wastewater charge will not apply.

How are water charges for schools calculated?

A Government decision taken in January 2008 allowed a phased in approach of water charges for schools. The aim of this was to enable schools to reduce their consumption before metered charges were introduced from 1^st January 2010:

• 2007                       €3.00 per year per pupil enrolled
• 2008                       €3.50 per year per pupil enrolled
• 2009                       €4.00 per year per pupil enrolled
• 2010                       €1.72 per m3 (1,000 litres) plus meter standing charge
• 2011                       €1.81 per m3 (1,000 litres) plus meter standing charge
• 2012                       €1.90 per m3 (1,000 litres) plus meter standing charge

I am a non-domestic customer, however there is a domestic property on my supply. How will my charges be calculated?

Where the mains supply serve both domestic and non-domestic usage, the City Council will apply an appropriate domestic allowance i.e. you will be allowed consume a specified volume of water at no charge.

It is not possible to meter my premises. How will I be charged?

In a small number of cases it is not physically possible to meter each customer individually. In these cases a scheme of fixed charges is utilised. However, every effort is made to meter customers.
