Dublin City Council are involved with the Local Agenda 21 (LA21) programme which aims to facilitate sustainable development within communities. It develops community awareness and encourages positive action to tackle environmental issues. In 2009, Dublin City Council in conjunction with the DOEHLG funded 16 projects which ranged from community gardens projects to recycling and waste prevention seminars in schools.
