Battery Recycling

Thanks to new EU Regulations implemented on the 26th of September 2008 it is now even easier to recycle your old batteries! According to the Regulations all retail outlets that sell batteries are now obliged to take back old batteries of similar type.

10,000 retail outlets including convenience stores, supermarkets, jewellers, hardware stores and garages will participate in the scheme. The scheme includes schools, hospitals and offices.

The good news for consumers is that there is no charge or obligation to purchase new batteries at participating outlets. The service is absolutely FREE!

By recycling and preventing batteries from going to landfill, you will help protect the environment and human health from potential hazardous chemicals.

For more information about the scheme you can contact WEEE Ireland on 01- 2999320 or info@weeeireland.ie

Spread a little ‘Sunshine Power’ this Christmas - WEEE Ireland launches a Battery recycling campaign to fund vital equipment for Children’s Sunshine Home & LauraLynn House.

WEEE Ireland and the Children’s Sunshine Home incorporating LauraLynn House recently launched their Christmas charity campaign with a difference, Spread a Little Sunshine. To download the poster, please click here.

WEEE Ireland (the compliance scheme for battery and waste electrical and electronic recycling) have joined forces with the Children’s Sunshine Home incorporating LauraLynn House, Ireland’s first children’s hospice, to give people the opportunity not only to help a charity out this Christmas, but help the environment at the same time! WEEE Ireland hopes to recycle at least 4.5million waste batteries between now and the end of the year as part of this charity initiative. If they reach this target, WEEE Ireland will give Children’s Sunshine Home incorporating LauraLynn House a battery powered electric SUV that will be used by both staff and children at the children’s hospice.

It’s so easy to participate !
