The provision of bring banks in a community should be seen as an important amenity in the area. Unfortunately this is not always the case. As a result of misuse by members of the public, local communities often oppose the siting of new bring banks in their area or will look to have existing banks removed.

There are a number of things you as a user can do to ensure your bring bank does not become a nuisance.

  • Do not leave extra bottles, cans etc. lying around if the bring bank is full. Bring them home and notify your local authority that the bring bank is full
  • Bring home any boxes or bags used to carry items to the bring centre – these can be reused for your next visit
  • Be sure to segregate items correctly e.g. clear, green and brown glass into the proper containers
  • Do not leave ordinary household rubbish around a bring bank – they are for recyclable items only and will only cause a nuisance to other users and those living in the local area
  • Try to avoid using your bring bank very late at night as the noise can disturb local residents
  • Remember, bring banks are for household use only, not for businesses. If you see businesses using your local bring bank be sure to report this to your local authority
